About Us

Mission Statement:

The purpose of the Tri-Co Ski/Snowboard Club is to involve more students in a sport that they can participate in for a lifetime. This sport can be very expensive for those that have to rent equipment so subsidies are made available on our bi-annual ski trip up to the Poconos. We rent a big 44 passenger bus and head up in a large group. So far, we have gone skiing/snowboarding at Bear Creek Mountain (Spring, 2007) and Camelback Ski Area (Spring, 2008). Trips include fun road trips, group rates, and an all around awesome time. We also like to help out in the community; when we fundraise, 25% of the money we receive goes to the Domestic Abuse Project of Delaware County, Inc.

Winter Co-Op:

For the first time this upcoming winter, the Ski and Snowboard Club will the hub for a tri-co informal trip co-op! If you want to head up to the mountains to ski or snowboard for a day, post a message on the message board with details about when/where you plan to go. Leave your email so people can contact you. General regulations for this is that each rider will give the driver $5 for gas. So, if you want to save on gas and meet some new friends who share the same interest in winter sports, take part in this opportunity.

About the Officers:

President: Christina Harview (charview@brynmawr.edu)

Hey all! A lot of you know me from around campus or from past trips to the mountains, but I’m going to give everyone a little bio so that those of you who I have not met can learn a little about where I am coming from. I’m Christina—the snow crazy, waiting around all spring summer and fall for winter to come, sleep with my snowboard under my pillow, can smell snow from 10 miles away, dreams about snowboarding, none of that raindrops on roses whiskers on kittens shit for me (I’ll take snowboarding), boards to class when the ground is white, wakes up at 2 a.m. and snowboards around campus—Christina. Nice to meet you and I am happy to be the prezzie. I never knew when I started the Ski/Snowboard Club two years ago that so many people were into winter sports. I hope you have as much fun as I do when we are on the mountain! Thanks again and feel free to contact me if you have any questions about who we are or what we do.

Vice President: Zoe Odenwalder (zodenwalde@brynmawr.edu)

Hi I’m Zoe! I was born and raised in Colorado; I live about 15 minutes outside Denver for anyone who has been there. Having been born in Colorado, skiing has always been a presence in my life. I started skiing when I was six years old, even though my dad tried to get me to start at three. I have been skiing ever since, almost 13 years! Currently, my home resort is Vail, you can find me there pretty much every weekend starting winter break, but I learned to ski at Copper Mountain and am a frequent resident of Keystone, Breckenridge, and Arapahoe Basin. I’m an all mountain skier, but I definitely need to practice my park skills. I absolutely love powder and a few cliffs to spice things up, however I can be a wimp sometimes. This year, I am so excited to finally ski the east coast, I am not expecting much… but I am super syked to try it out. I cannot wait for an excellent year of ski/snowboard club. Although, this is my freshman year, I feel I can contribute a lot. Hopefully, I can get us off the east coast for spring break and increase the number of members!! The more people we ski with, the better of a time it is. I am also willing to help any of those who would like some help learning to ski. Cannot wait to meet you fellow skiers and riders.

Treasurer: Katie Sun (ksun01@brynmawr.edu)

Hi! I’m Katie Sun. I’m from Naperville, IL which is a suburb of Chicago. I’ve lived there all my life and I love it. Sadly, because of location I don’t have the chance to go skiing often. Usually we go up to Cascade Mountains in Wisconsin. I started skiing when I was about 13 years old. My dad grew up in Colorado and was always so eager to take my sister and me to the slopes whenever he could. Although I lack in experience I am so excited to head off this year with everyone in ski/snowboarding club as your treasurer. It’s my first year here but I feel I’ll be able to contribute a lot to make our day trips the best of fun. It would be so great to be able to get away for spring break and I’ll do my best to try and make that happen. I’m so excited to meet all of you soon. Maybe one of you can teach me how to snowboard this year!

Secretary: Elaine Lavin (elavin@brynmawr.edu)

Hi, I’m Elaine from New York City. Though I don’t live near the mountains, my dad is from Massachusetts so there has always been a big push to ski in my family. My first ski trip was to Jackson Hole, WY at age five. I don’t remember much other than being cold and sitting on my dad’s shoulders while he skied. My family started going to Steamboat, CO when I was about 8 and that was where I fell in love with skiing. It’s still my favorite mountain. More recently, I’ve been doing Eastern skiing, particularly at Sugarbush, VT. I’m really excited to be secretary of the ski/snowboard club. I can’t wait to meet everyone, especially the amazing people who are trying it for the first time. We’re going to have a fantastic year of skiing/riding. See you on the slopes!

Swarthmore Rep: Daniel Stair (dstair1 at swarthmore dot edu)

Hey, I’m Dan, I live in New York City, which means that I spend a lot of time plotting ways to get to Vermont or upstate NY over breaks.  I first went skiing when I was 8 and I realized the pure joy of snowboarding about six years ago.  I usually go wherever fate lands me on the East Coast though my first time skiing was in Vail.  I think skiing/snowboarding is an awesome sport, and I look forward to going on some great trips with all of you this year.  And as Swat’s rep, I hope that a lot of Swatties will be hitting the slopes with us this year!
